Nobody's Daughter
What lies there?
A shapeless shape or a
formless form,
Tucked secluded I saw,
lying on the platform.
Oh! It moved a bit,
and stretched anew,
A human form it was,
and I got the clue.
And as I closed, angst
showed on the face,
Body of a girl, bereft
of grace.
Thirteen maybe
fourteen, she looked no more
Shifted uneasily, from
experiences of yore.
Expecting me to
fathom, as men had done,
Feel here and there,
and have lusty fun.
She looked beyond
years, though young, as I told,
Matured by the looks
and the lust which they hold.
The doors for her
opened, not out, but in,
Withdrawing into
herself for committing a sin.
Ashamed, what she
carried between her thighs,
Belonging to none, yet
belonging of guys.
Her eyes met mine, as
if asking a thing,
Was I window-shopping,
or will I buy something.
As time ticked past,
she grew more restless,
Was I here for
something, or just for a fuss.
My hands moved down as
I went for the purse,
Her broken lips
curled, going for a curse.
A crispy note appeared
so swift in my palm,
She glanced here and
there and then became calm.
Her voice I heard,
when she asked me, " Where?"
My mind was puzzled,
as I fixed my stare.
" Daughter, take
the money, go out, go and eat."
She sprang in no time,
and was bang on her feet.
" Whose daughter
I am, Whose father you are,
No relatives, no
friends, not near, nor far.
Who gave you
permission to call me as such,
When I am not asking,
then why give me crutch.
And, I am not your
daughter, and don't be my father,
I am not a beggar, I
buy, not gather.
Buy if you want, but
don't lay a claim,
You men look so
different, but sound just the same.
In the glare of the
day ,you talk like a sage,
In the dark you treat
us, as if animals in a cage.
My body you can buy,
the soul I won't sell,
Don't promise me the
heavens, I'm comfortable in the hell."
It was then that I
saw, her eyes dropped a tear,
Tried as I can, but my
gaze couldn't steer.
I moved my hands
softly, to comfort, and to say,
She stooped low and
clear, and ran, ran away.
Her sobs hung around,
as her form moved away,
Her cries said that
all, what her words couldn't say.
I stood there
motionless, have I done a wrong,
Why were there cries,
when I tried for the song?
Emotions run amok, and
I hardly could start,
Have I broken it more,
her already shattered heart.

Amazing composition!
ReplyDeleteI am deeply touched.Your each and every word speaks aloud of the wrong happened to the girl, her situation, mentality and reaction...you expressed all of them with perfection.
Wonderful rhyming and use of apt words :-)
